BI and Reporting TransformationRasminAugust 6, 2020
Client is a global leader in motion and control technologies. The firm has a broad array of products and services that include aerospace, climate control, electromechanical, filtration, fluid and gas handling, hydraulics, pneumatics, process control, and sealing and shielding.
Client’s existing BI platform was not fully meeting the needs of the business:
Ability to monitor the business more closely and get instant insights and answers to business questions – leverage data to boost efficiency and productivity within the organization.
Ability to access rich dashboards across all device platforms (desktop/web and mobile)
Improve the user experience and offer enhanced visual analytics capabilities
Improve the access/integration capabilities of the platform
Our Solution
Migrated client’s business intelligence and reporting platform from Cognos to Power BI
Client stakeholders can now leverage the superior capabilities of Power BI. Users now find it easy to use because of its similarity with power pivot and Excel.
Our implementation entailed:
Building on premise PBI servers & gateways
Building SSAS servers & schedulers to use multidimensional/tabular models, replacing Cognos cubes
Providing security recommendations for different levels of Power BI structures
Building replica of Cognos Cubes in VS & deploying them on SSAS servers
Integrations Power BI with a wide array of external data sources utilizing client drivers (JDE, Oracle, SQL Analysis etc.)
Business Benefit
Stakeholders now have access to a variety of powerful dashboards that offer visualizations relevant to a particular business topic and therefore facilitating easier business analysis
The implemented Power Reports show a complete and structured presentation of data that can be sliced-and-diced in different ways to reveal important business insights
Users are now able to easily share reports with other users
Migrating to the new platform has facilitated self-service BI – simple enough for end users to create their own reports and dashboards
The platform’s built-in support for mobile applications allows stakeholders to access the power of BI from anyplace, anytime on multiple device formats
